Wave 5 Schools, Tower Hamlets

In common with many Local Education Authorities, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets is carrying out an extensive programme of building and refurbishment work at a number of its existing schools as part of the Building Schools for the Future initiative.

Phil Jones Associates was appointed to provide transportation advice in connection with two schools in the Borough – the Raines Foundation Upper School and the Beatrice Tate Special School, both in Bethnal Green. The brief for PJA was to produce an independent report on each site adressing the following issues:

  • Identifying any traffic and transport issues associated with the existing school and/or highway network;
  • Identifying any key constraints affecting redevelopment; and
  • Preparing trip generation estimates to identify the likely increase in peak hour vehicle trips.

Reports were submitted to LB Tower Hamlets in May 2009 and have been taken into account in the development of the proposals for the two sites.
