Amlets Park, Cranleigh
PJA was appointed by Land and Partners to prepare a residential masterplan for a new development at Amlets Park, Cranleigh.
Amlets Park was conceived as an exemplar project for Cranleigh, to show how it is possible to deliver new homes that meet the needs of the community, whilst respecting and enhancing the natural and built environment and providing resilience to climate change.
The innovative development was granted planning consent in 2014, to deliver up to 150 homes including a number of self build plots, public parkland, together with a community
orchard, food growing, wildlife habitat, mixed use community building and sustainable drainage.
The development offers an alternative to the current process of housebuilding that has tended in the past to produce bland, soulless estates without any sense of place or integration into a local community.
PJA provided urban design advice, preparing the outline masterplan, design and access statement, and providing advice on the design of the residential streets, which were based
on Manual for Streets principles.
